Trevally turns your inbox into an organized contact platform: every person, every conversation, every attachment, in one place, with no data entry. But what does that actually look like the first time you use it? In this article we'll walk through the entire first-time experience, from signing in to opening your first contact card.

Step 1: Sign in

Head to app.trevally.io. You'll be greeted by the sign-in card, and you have three ways in: Continue with Gmail, Continue with Microsoft 365, or a classic email and password.

Most people pick Gmail or Microsoft 365, since Trevally builds your contact base from your email, connecting your provider from the very first click is the fastest path. And a note on trust, right on that screen: Trevally's use of information obtained from Google APIs strictly adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements.

Step 2: Choose your account

If you picked Google, you'll land on the familiar Google account chooser. Select the account whose inbox you want Trevally to organize.

Step 3: Review the permissions

Google then shows you exactly what Trevally is asking for. Before you're redirected, Trevally itself explains what the authorization enables:

  • Read emails from your Gmail account;
  • Extract and back up your contacts and messages;
  • Generate metrics and insights for you.

The access is read-only (Trevally never sends anything on your behalf) and you can revoke it at any time from your Google Account settings. Click Continue and you're through.

Step 4: Accept the terms

On your very first arrival, Trevally welcomes you with its Terms of Service. Take a moment to review them. The short version: your privacy and the protection of your data are the first priority.

Hit Accept and you're in. Trevally even celebrates the moment with a burst of confetti 🎉.

Step 5: Your first sync starts automatically

The moment you accept, Trevally starts working. Your contacts, messages, and attachments begin syncing in the background: no setup wizard, no import forms.

While the sync runs, you'll notice small blue spinners next to items in the sidebar, like Dashboard and My Contacts:

You don't have to wait. Keep exploring the app: contacts appear as they're extracted, and Trevally notifies you with a friendly "Importing Concluded" message when your data is fully processed.

Step 6: Meet your dashboard

The dashboard is your home base, and it fills itself as the sync progresses:

At a glance you get:

  • Usage Statistics: messages, contacts, attachments, contact lists, storage used, and connected sources;
  • Insights Panel: valuable information about your contacts to build more meaningful relationships;
  • Contacts Synced: how many new people Trevally discovered this week;
  • Trusted Contacts: approve the people who may access up-to-date information from your contact card;
  • Latest Calendar Events: your recent invitations, right next to the people behind them.

Step 7: Find anything with global search

Here's where Trevally starts paying off. Click Start your search… at the top of the screen (or just press ⌘K) and type a name, a company, or even part of a file name.

As you type, Trevally searches across everything it has organized for you (contacts, attachments, links, lists, messages, and notes) and groups the results by type, most relevant first. In the example above, a single word ("Google") instantly surfaces three contacts and an attachment, each with its last interaction date.

Step 8: Open a contact card

Click Open on any result and you land on that person's contact card: the full picture of your relationship:

Beyond the basic information, the tabs across the top give you everything connected to that person: Messages you've exchanged, Notes you've taken, Attachments they've sent, Tasks you're tracking, Insights about the relationship, and even a Merge tool for duplicate entries. No spreadsheet archaeology. It's all attached to the person, automatically.

That's it: you're set up
