Most of your Trevally contact base builds itself from your inbox, and the rest usually arrives through file imports. But there's a third way, for the moments when the person isn't in either place yet: someone you met at an event, a supplier you'll start emailing next week, a company you want on your radar. This guide covers how to create a contact in Trevally manually, and, just as important, everywhere that contact can be used once it exists.

How do you create a new contact?

You don't have to navigate anywhere first: the New Contact button sits in the top bar of every screen, right next to Import Contacts.

You'll also find it on the My Contacts page, next to the search and view controls:

And there's a third door worth knowing about: whenever a Trevally feature asks you to pick people (adding members to a Kanban board, choosing recipients in Courier, building a contact list) the Select Contacts dialog includes its own New Contact button. If the person you need isn't in your base yet, you create them right there, mid-task, and keep going.

Personal Card or Business Card?

The first question Trevally asks is what kind of contact you're creating:

Choosing between a Personal Card and a Business Card when creating a contact

  • Personal Card: for people: friends, family, social and professional network contacts. The one required field is the first name.
  • Business Card: for organizations: companies, suppliers, clients, institutions. The required field here is the company name, and the card's categories adapt to organization-relevant attributes.

Everything else is optional. You can save a contact with a single name and enrich it over time.

Filling in the card

The creation form is the same dynamic contact card used everywhere in Trevally, so nothing here is fixed:

Fields you don't need can be removed on the spot with the red button next to each one. Need a field the form doesn't offer? Add Custom Attribute opens the catalog of predefined fields, or lets you build your own, choosing its type, name, placeholder and size:

The same goes for entire sections. New Category offers ready-made groups (Contact Details, Professional Information, Social Network, Education and more) or a custom category with any name you choose:

Hit Save, and the contact joins your base as a first-class citizen. Trevally records it with the platform itself as its source, side by side with the contacts that came from your inbox.

Where can you use the new contact?

This is where creating a contact in Trevally pays off beyond a simple address-book entry. The moment it's saved, that contact works everywhere:

  • Global Search (⌘K) finds it by name or email, like any synced contact;
  • Contact Lists: add it to "Clients", "Family" or "Conference Leads", and share those lists with your team;
  • Kanban boards: drop it into a hiring pipeline or deal flow;
  • Courier: select it as a recipient for secure file sharing;
  • Tasky: link tasks to it, so follow-ups never lose their person;
  • Notes, messages and attachments: its contact card starts collecting your notes immediately, and the moment real emails begin to flow, messages and attachments attach themselves automatically;
  • Relevance: once conversations happen, the card earns its relevance score like any other relationship;
  • Merging: if it later turns out this person also exists as a synced contact (say their emails started arriving after you created them by hand), the Merge tools combine the two into one complete card, keeping everything.

One entry point, the entire platform. That's the difference between adding a row to a spreadsheet and creating a contact in a contact intelligence platform.

Removing a contact

Contacts can be deleted from the My Contacts list, with a confirmation step that reminds you related content may no longer be available afterwards:

Start with one

Think of the last person you met who isn't in your contacts yet. Create their card now, add them to the right list, attach the first note, and let Trevally take it from there as the relationship grows.
